I Love Grannies!

Granny Squares: I love 'em.

They're usually small, so you can make them even in oppressive heat without giving yourself heat exhaustion and join them into a new, warm blanket as soon as it cools. You can make them as big as you want, so you could make a blanket with just one gigantic granny if you wanted. They can be made into almost anything you want and be made with color combinations only limited by your imagination.

My current collection of granny squares just waiting to be joined.
In fact, I made granny squares in turquoise, lavender, and coffee brown all through July. I'm just waiting for a Saturday morning free to join these lovelies into a tween's blanket. (And that was with temperatures in the triple digits, so you now I'm not kidding about being a fine hot weather project.)

You can't really see it in the picture, but each of those squares is the stop of a stack of anywhere from two to twelve squares. And it's going to be my first time making a blanket with multiple square sizes, so I'm both excited and a bit leery of putting it together. What if the sizes don't line up like I think they will?

That's another beautiful thing about granny squares though; you can adjust the size simply by adding another round of stitches.

Do you have a favorite summer project?
