Can You Make a Book Out of a Single Sheet of Paper?

Today I'm participating in The Pintester Movement being put on by none other than Sonja Foust over at Pintester. Basically, a whole bunch of us bloggers decided to get together and test out a bunch of our Pinterest pins.
If you've never heard of Pintester before, it's a hilarious blog where Sonja tests out various pins. Some flop. Some succeed, but she and her readers always make things entertaining. I do have to put a word of caution out there, some of the language can get pretty bad and some off color jokes get made. So if you can't overlook those, it's probably not the blog for you.

So, onto my experience.

I saw a relatively simple pin last week or so where you make a teeny book out of a sheet of paper. Considering Boo Bear's desire to be an author and illustrator right now, I thought it'd be a perfect pin to test.

I have to say, the hardest part of this pin test was dealing with the video. I should have stuck to pictures! This was my first time filming video with my little Sanyo, so I had no idea the memory would hold so little that it'd cut out almost immediately after I finished with the first clip. Then I'm a complete noob when it comes to editing video, so trying to get the two separate clips spliced together took an obscenely long time. This would be why all my other videos have been single takes...

Here's the original pin, with a link to the original.

Here's a close up of Sneak's book, which she will NOT be giving away.
Anyway, the pin worked despite a few of the pages turning out slightly wonky. Like I said, I'm sure it wouldn't have if I'd had an exacto knife, but oh well.

Boo really wants to gift someone with her first solo creation, so I promised I'd do a giveaway. If you'd like a chance to win a My Little Pony story as written by this budding six-year-old author/illustrator, just leave a comment below or on the YouTube video itself. I'll randomly choose a winner sometime Saturday afternoon.

  2. Aaaaw that's so adorable. I can't give away any of my kids' masterpieces. What started out as my treasure box is turning into an episode of Hoarders!

    1. Thank you, from the girls and me.

This is coming from Boo. She loves gifting her pictures and stories, not only to Hubby and me, but to family, other kids, and the folks at church. She's very prolific too, so if I kept them all, we'd literally be drowning in pictures. Plus, since she learned storytelling is a real thing, she's been trading off with creating their bedtime story with Sneak and the occasional book. So, while this one is going out, we still have lots of her other masterpieces in her grade folders and stuff waiting to be scrap booked.

  3. Oh, and update. Boo put her pencil through the paper because she was working over the seam in the table. It's old and busted up, so we can't get it to stay as tightly closed as it should. She asked to start over, and wouldn't you know, placing the new paper over the same seam and using it to my advantage made the steak knife work like an exacto!

    1. It really is. I'm happy I stumbled across this pin week before last, and I know it's one we'll do often.

      I hope he enjoys it.
